Dear Farmhouse Diary, It's Plastic Free July and it's incredibly difficult to limit plastic consumption, let alone go no plastics at all!!!
I thought we were doing pretty good until I decided to take the Challenge by the Plastic Free Foundation. I'm pretty good about avoiding single use bags, but it's the other items which are everywhere! Do you know how many grocery items come in single use, plastic containers of some sort! I've not really thought about it in the past, but it is mind-boggling. And requires a change in buying habits to avoid them, as well as in recycling to get rid of them properly. Well. That GF bread endeavor was a bust - the peasant loaf looks done, it smells done, but it's not done. Blch. Thank goodness the french read loaf looks good. We also tried a new/old grocery store which was actually a good idea; while it's a little further away from our local Kroger owned store, the time was worth it. Until I remembered the store takes only cash or debit. I left me debit card at home because... let's just say I won't make that mistake again. Thankfully, the Boss was able to help me out and didn't mind taking the time to rescue me! It's been a challenging week; not enough spoons for the work to be done. Surprising how emotional support and caring can draw on physical and mental reserves. I am privileged to be able to help out, but it can be daunting. Nonna
